201277-5: Bee Ridge Rd to Fruitville Rd PD&E
FPID: 201277-5
Project webpage: www.swflroads.com/project/201277-5
This FDOT District One design project includes reconstruction of the Interstate 75 (I-75) at Bee Ridge Road interchange in Sarasota County. The Department will rebuild the interchange from the existing diamond design to a hybrid diverging diamond interchange (DDI) and southbound diversion ramp. The Department will also rebuild the Bee Ridge Road at Cattlemen Road intersection to a continuous flow intersection (CFI).
The hybrid DDI, southbound diversion ramp, and CFI work in conjunction to accommodate the traffic at the I-75/Bee Ridge Road interchange and the Bee Ridge Road/Cattlemen Road intersection, which are in very close proximity to each other. The hybrid DDI shifts eastbound traffic to the left to allow for improved access to northbound I-75. The southbound diversion ramp eliminates a weaving issue between the I-75/Bee Ridge Road interchange and the Bee Ridge Road/Cattlemen Road intersection. It also improves access to commercial and residential areas on or near Cattlemen Road. The CFI diverts the westbound and eastbound traffic to the left prior to the intersection. This reduces the number of phases for the signals and improves delay times.
The project will widen about 3.8 miles of I-75, from south of Bee Ridge Road to south of Fruitville Road, to an eight-lane highway with three through lanes and one auxiliary lane in each direction added to the interstate median. This project will widen I-75 bridges over Palmer Boulevard and Phillippi Creek and replace I-75 bridges over Bee Ridge Road. The project also includes widening about one mile of Bee Ridge Road from west of Bee Ridge Road/Maxfield Drive intersection to west of Bee Ridge Road/Mauna Loa Boulevard intersection.
A future ultimate I-75 design project will widen the interstate from interim eight lanes to twelve lanes. The project includes two express lanes, three general use lanes, and one auxiliary lane in each direction within the project limits. Ultimate improvements are planned to extend acceptable level of service for I-75 well beyond 2050.
420613-2: Fruitville Rd Interchange
FPID: 420613-2
Project webpage: www.swflroads.com/project/420613-2
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), along with Sarasota County, has identified the need to make improvements to the I-75 / Fruitville Road (SR 780) interchange to improve highway operations, safety, and regional mobility.
This design project includes reconstruction of the interchange at Fruitville Road in Sarasota County. The Department will rebuild the interchange from the existing partial cloverleaf design to a diverging diamond interchange (DDI). The DDI shifts eastbound traffic to the left to allow for improved access to northbound I-75 and shifts westbound traffic to the left to allow for improved access to southbound I-75. This approach reduces the number of phases for the signals and improves delay times. A similar type of interchange has recently been constructed and is now in operation at I-75 / University Parkway, which is the next interchange north of this project.
The project will widen about 2 miles of I-75, from Palmer Boulevard to north of Fruitville Road, to a six-lane highway with three through lanes per direction and will replace the existing bridges over Fruitville Road. The project also includes widening of about 1.6 miles of Fruitville Road from Honore Avenue to east of Coburn Road.
A future ultimate I-75 design project will widen the interstate from interim six lanes to ten lanes. The project includes two express lanes and three general use lanes in each direction within the project limits. Ultimate improvements are planned to extend acceptable level of service for I-75 well beyond 2050.
201032-5-1: I-75 at US 301 Interchange
FPID: 201032-5
Project webpage: www.swflroads.com/project/201032-5
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is reconstructing the interchange at I-75 and US 301. The proposed improvements include reconfiguring the existing interchange as well as enhancements to three intersections along US 301: 51st Avenue East, 60th Avenue East, and 19th Street East, and adding auxiliary lanes from SR 64 to the new ramps.
The scope of this project is to widen the I-75 (SR 93) facility and reconstruct the I-75 (SR 93)/US 301 (SR 43) interchange from a partial cloverleaf interchange to a tight diamond configuration. New bridges will be constructed over the Manatee River for a northbound exit ramp and a southbound entrance ramp. They will be compatible with the ultimate section for future mainline traffic. The widening and reconstruction of I-75 (SR 93) will provide for an eight-lane divided roadway with 12-foot inside and outside shoulders (10-foot paved) and a median that varies from 64 feet to 161 feet. A depressed median with roadside ditches will be used to convey storm water.
The redesign of the I-75/US 301 interchange will not only handle the existing six lanes of traffic more efficiently, it will accommodate up to ten lanes (two express lanes and three general use lanes in each direction). These future ultimate improvements are planned to extend the acceptable level of service for I-75 well beyond 2050.
201277-3: I-75 at Clark Rd Interchange
FPID: 201277-3
Project webpage: www.swflroads.com/project/201277-3
The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is reconstructing the interchange at I-75 and Clark Road (SR 72) in Sarasota County. The proposed improvements include reconstructing the existing interchange to a Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI), adding auxiliary lanes on I-75, and improvements on Clark Road
The improvements for I-75 include from Clark to Bee Ridge on Northbound I-75, and from Proctor Rd to Clark Rd on Southbound I-75, widening for a 12-foot auxiliary lane, milling and resurfacing the existing mainline pavement and reconstruction of all of the ramps at Clark Road (SR 72) interchange. The I-75 bridges over Clark Road (SR 72) (No. 170085 and No. 170086) will remain existing with three lanes in both directions of travel.
Project Improvements
The proposed improvements include reconstruction of the interchange to an eight-lane divided Diverging Diamond Interchange (DDI). The proposed project also includes reconstruction of all on and off ramps in both the northbound and southbound direction. The project will also include new mast arms for the existing signal at Catamaran Drive, a new signal at Queensbury Boulevard, noise barrier walls, as well as buffered bike lanes and, sidewalks along both sides of Clark Road and resurfacing of existing pavement. The I-75 bridges over Clark Road will remain with three lanes in both directions of travel.
